Having trouble programming the comfort settings on your Z2 such as Ramp and Z-Breathe setting? Watch this video to see how to change these settings.

How to program the comfort settings on the Z1 and Z2 CPAPs.

Changing Settings

If you are having trouble connecting an iPhone 11 to Nitelog and have a Z1 or Z2 manufactured before June 1, 2020, you may need to upgrade your firmware.

All Z2 Auto CPAPs manufactured after June 1, 2020 have the new firmware already installed.

The new firmware only corrects a connection issue between the iPhone 11 and the Z1 and Z2 Autos to Nitelog.

Upgrade to the new firmware is not necessary unless you have an iPhone 11. It does not affect the performance or functionality of the Z1 or Z2.

Click on link below for more information.

https://breas.us/z1-z2-firmware-upgrade/

You can change the date and time on your Z1 or Z2 Auto, by connecting it to our Nitelog app on an iPhone/iPad or most Android devices. The app should prompt you to sync to the local date and time upon start up. If it does not, or if you accidentally hit “no” when prompted, swipe left at the main screen (that shows your Z1/Z2 screen) to access the settings menu. You can manually adjust the date and time on this page.

On a Z1 or Z2 CPAP you can change the date and time by using the Dataviewer Software on a Windows computer.

Z-Breathe is a proprietary algorithm engineered in the Z2 to smooth out the breathing cycle while enjoying the benefits of CPAP treatment. Typically users experience pressure swings while breathing on a CPAP device. Pressure swings occur as a spike in pressure during exhalation and a drop in pressure during inhalation. Z-Breathe is designed to minimize the impact of spikes and drops while keeping the pressure constant, thereby delivering more comfortable therapy.

Pressure swings can vary between users due to lung capacity and other factors. For this reason we have created 3 levels of Z-Breathe to accommodate individual users’ preferences:

— 1 offers mild pressure swing relief

— 2 is the Default Setting and offers moderate pressure swing relief

— 3 is the most aggressive setting for pressure swing relief

To change the Z-Breathe setting on your device, start with the unit in standby mode (reading 0.0 for the pressure). Simultaneously hold down the UP and DOWN arrow buttons until APAP or CPAP-2 is flashing.  Use the UP and DOWN arrow buttons to adjust the setting and hold down the MIDDLE power button until you see the word ACCEPT on your screen. The unit will then return to standby mode.

Fault/Reminder Codes

When the Z1 or Z2 is in standby mode, the screen reads 0.0 in the pressure area. If the screen is not displaying 0.0 when turning your machine on, would indicate that it needs to be returned for repair. Please contact your provider, and they will advise you on what steps to take.

If the display screen shows your pressure and the fan has not started blowing air within thirty seconds, then the blower has failed. If your unit is manufactured on or after March 2015, the unit can be repaired. If the unit purchase date is less than 24 months, please contact your provider for a warranty repair. All others please call 855-436-8724 for assistance.

The Fail 1 code means that you are hitting the power button while the motor is still running. It will happen when you hit the middle button repeatedly.

A Fault 22 means that there is an SD card stuck in the SD port of your Z1 machine and needs to be removed from the device. Do not attempt to remove the SD card yourself.

A Fault 33 or 21 means the device has failed. Please contact us at 855-436-8729 about replacing or repairing your device.

A Fault 66 indicates your machine needs to be reprogrammed. Please contact your provider to coordinate resetting your device.

When you see 18.8 on your Z1 or Z2 screen, it is part of the normal start up sequence and should go away when the device is ready in stand by mode and showing 0.0.

If it does not go away, it could indicate that there is a defect with the display panel, and will need to be returned through the provider you purchased your machine from.  Please contact your provider and they will advise you on what steps to take.

The word REMINDER indicates there is an excessive air leak somewhere. If it is happening while you have your mask on your face, please disconnect all parts to the Z1/Z2 including your mask and tubing (battery from the PowerShell, PowerShell from the machine, and unplug it from the wall). Reassemble the parts to the Z1/Z2.

REMINDER will only appear on the Z2 if you have turned off the Auto Start/Stop function. Otherwise the Z2 will stop when your mask is removed. If the REMINDER reappears, the device will need to be returned.  Please contact the provider you purchased your machine from to assist you.

General Questions

Insurance coverage varies greatly from plan to plan, so check with your insurance provider for your exact coverage. Most providers limit the coverage to 1 CPAP machine in a 3 to 5 year period.

Most people pay cash for their travel CPAP because it is second machine in addition to the one they have for home use.

Yes, although you may need to explain to the TSA agent what you are carrying. In the back of the Z1 or Z2 User Guide is a letter that you carry with you to show the FAA Compliance.

FAA Compliance

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) Final Rule, “Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability in Air Travel” (73 FR 27614 which updates Title 14 CFR Part 382), effective May 13, 2009 provides important requirements for the accommodation of passengers with respiratory assistive devices (Ventilators, Respirators and CPAP machines).

In line with these requirements, respiratory assistive devices may be used onboard an aircraft, without further testing by the carrier, provided they have been tested for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) in accordance with the current version of RTCA/DO-160, Section 21, Category M.

Breas Medical has successfully completed testing for the Z2 CPAP System. The Z2 CPAP System complies with RTCA/DO-160, Section 21, Category M and can be considered FAA compliant.

Some airlines may require advance notification before travel, and devices may need to be operated by battery. Breas Medical recommends that customers check with their airline.

* Z2 Bluetooth must be in the off (airplane mode) position similar to any other mobile device to maintain compliance.

Category: General Questions

The Z1 and Z2 run on electricity from 100-240V which means you will not need a converter for international travel. You will only need a plug adapter to fit the right configuration for the country you are visiting.

Our tubing comes in 6 feet slim style which is 15 mm in diameter. You can also use standard tubing with the Z1/Z2, which is 19-22 mm diameter.

Category: General Questions

The most common cause of a pressure increasing, beyond what is necessary, is a leak in the system/mask. It may be a leak in the connections to the mask, or the hose.  Please check to make sure these connections fit tightly.

Another reason is an excessive leak at the mask.  Please make sure you have a proper seal between the mask and your face.

Check the connection of the tube adapter and the outlet tube (the rubber piece where the tube adapter connects to the machine). If the tube adapter is not properly seated in the outlet tube, the pressure sensor may not be getting the information it needs to regulate the pressure. Also check to make sure your outlet tube is not torn. If it is torn, the device will need to be returned to be repaired.

The last reason could be the Z1/Z2 may be sensing an obstruction, which reads as an apnea, and thus increasing the pressure.  This could be caused by congestion, or a mask system that has very low flow rate. If you have a mask with very low flow rate, such as some of the very small nasal pillow masks, you may want to try a mask with less restriction such as a nasal mask.  If none of the above are successful, please contact the provider you purchased your Z1/z2 from.

On the last day of each month, the Z1 Auto only ‘logs’ the time used between the start of usage and midnight. It does not report any time between midnight, and morning of the first morning of the month. Is there a fix to this problem?

Your viewing window may be set incorrectly. In order to fix this, go into chart settings by using the gear button in the top right corner of the main Nitelog screen. Change your usual sleep time to the time you went to sleep and change the hours of sleep to 12. You should now be able to view your data for the night selected.

PowerShell and Battery Questions

No, you cannot run your Z1 or Z2 on a DC mobile adapter however, it can be used to charge the PowerShell. We cannot guarantee the mobile adapter will function with all cars, as battery voltage isn’t uniform.

Once the battery is fully charged, please disconnect your Z1/Z2 machine from your PowerShell and remove the battery from the PowerShell, or it will slowly drain the battery over the course of 2-3 days.

Make sure you hear a clicking noise when inserting the Z1 or Z2 into the PowerShell. If it is still not charging disconnect the Z1/Z2, battery, and power supply and reconnect. Proceed to recharge your unit again for 10-12 hours. If it is still not holding a charge it will need to be sent in for a return by the provider you purchased your unit from. Please keep the following information in mind after charging your Power Shell:

  • Disconnect the battery from the PowerShell after a full charge to prevent the battery from slowly draining within a 2-3 day period.
  • The battery needs to be charged for 10-12 hours to ensure a full charge.
  • The bars of battery life on the LCD screen need to be full, and not blinking.
  • The PowerShell battery will not charge while it is operating the Z1/Z2 for treatment. The battery must be charged between treatments.
