Top 5 Restful Getaways in the US

By April 29, 2014December 12th, 2014General, HDM Blog, Travel Blog

Vacations are supposed to be restful by definition, but not every destination lends itself to relaxation and rejuvenation. (There’s nothing better than getting home from a vacation and feeling like you need another one to recover – Disney World, anyone?) HDM has compiled a list of our Top 5 Rest-Tastic Getaways (in no particular order) right inside the continental United States. We recommend that you pack your bags (and your Z1) and hit these destinations this summer. After all, who deserves a restful vacation more than those with sleep apnea?

1. Mount Desert Island, ME

This coastal New England island boasts three cozy, idyllic fishing towns separated by the magnificence of Acadia National Park. The nature of the park is immersive – it has rocky coasts where seals swim, boat tours where you can see whales and puffins, and unparalleled mountain views. There are also more leisurely paths along the sea, which you can take between your Victorian-style hotel and the Bar Harbor village. For those who have trouble getting enough air, there’s no place better to take a breather.

2. Napa Valley, CA

The heart of wine country is known as one of the country’s most relaxing areas, and not just because of its abundance of wine. You can, of course, partake in vineyard tours which normally include delicious samples, but apart from that, you can stay in an impressive Italian-style villa and enjoy the rolling hills and abundant California sunshine away from the smog of LA or the expense of San Francisco.

3, Outer Banks, NC

The Outer Banks are one of the more relaxing beach destinations on the east coast because, for so long, they went under-utilized. You won’t find the flashy boardwalks or rowdy spring break crowds that make up so much of the culture at other East Coast destinations. Fewer high-rises means fewer crowds and more room to relax, breathe, and enjoy the ocean view.

4. Hilton Head, SC

There is something for everyone on Hilton Head. The island is only a few square miles, and it’s so far south in South Carolina that you can see Georgia from part of the island. It’s an island paradise with winding bike paths and huge, flat beaches and palm trees. There is a bit more going on commercially on the island than in places like the Outer Banks or Mount Desert Island, but it’s family-oriented (less bars and nightlife, more mini golf and artisan shops). You can also easily avoid the commercial parts of the island, if you want to, because they tend to be clustered in one area.

5. Sedona, AZ

Sedona has become known as one of the most beautiful places in the country, sometimes listed above the Grand Canyon. Its colorful rock formations make it unlike any other scenery in the world, and you can tour the sprawling, rocky wilderness on foot or by jeep.  A cozy desert lodge at Sedona and the rich, dry desert air could be all you need to rest up.
